Artist you've probably never heard of, but should have: Sun Glitters

So here's the run down on Sun Glitters:
This dude from Luxembourg named Victor Ferreira has been making music since 1998. He was using the name Sug(r)cane. So the artist formally known as Sug(r)cane is now known as Sun Glitters. On his bandcamp page, Victor describes his music "Sun Glitters sound is an ocean of lush melodies, pitch-shifted vocal samples, ghostly digi-diva choirs, warm bass melodies driven by alternately dense and relaxing beatwork combinations between downtempo and wonky beats." These words describe his music much more eloquently then I could. They are also words of truth. On a recent music binge, my roommate pulled out one of my favorite recent made-up genres "post dub-step" to describe Sun Glitters. Pretty spot on I would say, but I don't think post-dubstep fully encompasses the reverb-soaked vocals that help define Sun Glitters. Victor does sound quite similar to a pre-major-label release James Blake, with squeaky little kid vocals, I would add another genre to the mix to account for some of the more grown-up sounding vocals in Sun Glitters. So I'm creating post-dubstep-gaze, whatever this even means I'll let you decide, and by you I mean no one, since no one reads this blog. And now that I have joined the masses in creating my own genre, I will leave you with a link to Sun Glitters Bandcamp and some sampling tracks from Sun Glitters most recent release "everything could be fine", and by most recent I mean in a very relative way, as there are three releases on Sun Glitters' bandcamp that were all released in March of this year, so like right now. Enjoy, and hopefully support Victor by buying his album off his bandcamp.

Pat Jordache "phantom limb" video

I'm in complete disarray after listening to this song/watching this video. I feel like Pat Jordache made this song/video when he was snowed in at a cabin for an entire winter. Cabin Fever began, but instead of attacking his family with an axe ala Jack Nicholson he made this way trippy song/video. I'm really digging this song/video, and I refer to them inseparably because they work so perfectly together. Watch the video, trip out on it, then head over to Constellation Records and buy Pat Jordache's latest release here if you so desire.

Star Slinger x Whitney Houston mp3

This is truly a great mash-up of two great songs. It's done by someone named Moranis. The only thing I can dig up is his/her/their youtube page, which only includes this song. Great track, I plan on following this mysterious Moranis in the future.

Bibio: Mind Bokeh Sneak Peak "Anything New" mp3

I find the music Bibio makes quite exceptional. Ambivalence Avenue was released in '09. It was part of my heavy rotation during my Fall semester in Melbourne. Lovers' Carvings in particular kept me going through the long Australian summer. Bibio's new album comes out this week, and "Anything New" is getting me quite excited for its release. Having a real retro vibe is definitely the current trend, and Bibio really excels in this area. Order the new record, Mind Bokeh here, on a sweet double LP.

Bibio- Anything New

Bonus Material!
Listen to this song and try not to think of the recent cell phone commercial that ruined it. Just enjoy the greatness that is Lovers' Carvings

ANR mp3

This track is mad chill. Don't know much about ANR except their name stands for Awesome New Republic, and they're from Miami. Great song though. I look forward to getting to know them and their music better

ANR- Stay Kids

New Cults Groove

Great new track from Cults upcoming full-length debut. Spoiler Alert* I have a major band crush on Cults. Despite only releasing a handful of songs, along with a 7", they have several excellent songs. They manage to channel so many different influences in their sound. If you so desire you can join me in pre-ordering their upcoming album (which will include "You Know What I Mean") here.

Cults- You Know What I Mean

Some bonus mp3's of older Cults stuff:

Cults- Go Outside

Cults- Oh My God (Daytrotter Session)

Gunnar Bjerk

In fitting with my recent eighties nostalgic obsession, here's this chill new track from Gunnar Bjerk. First music I've heard form Bjerk, but supposedly he's originally from Arizona, but landed in New York a couple years back with hopes of becoming a studio engineer. Then he ended up making a couple tracks. Thank goodness he did because this one sounds great. Pick up a 500 limited 10" pressings of "Back Then" at the DFA Website.

Spring Break Mix

Time to make up for lost time. This is my spring break mix. Enjoy it like you enjoy a ray of sunlight burning through a morning Pacific Ocean fog.

Summer Camp- I Want You

PS, I saw Summer Camp over my spring break at the Echo. I'm pretty sure the sound guy had never actually heard any of Summer Camp's music before, so the beginning of the set was quite forgettable, but they closed with this, their new track, and completely blew me away.

Tennis- Marathon

Beach Fossils- Daydream

Gold Panda- Marriage

Kisses- Kisses

Miami Horror- Sometimes

Rapdragon- She Got Me

Lykke Li- I Follow You (Tyler the Creator Remix)

Unouomedude- Buildings

jj- The End

Greatest Hits- Fun Girls

This is a fun song. Seems Greatest Hits made it with the aim to recreate all of their favorite 80's songs in one fell swoop. Long story short, they succeeded. With flying colors. Tried with all my might to find this track in mp3, but you, along with me, will have to settle for a soundcloud stream.

Time Wharp- Cupcake mp3

I listened to this song over and over while studying for my Social Movements Midterm. Very impressive stuff, comes highly recommended, especially on repeat when trying to cram for a test. Or whenever is you don't ever study. Hats off for the cool gif too

Arches- Headlights mp3

Absolutely gorgeous piece from Arches. The little guitar piece is my favorite part of this song. Not to call out the singing, but I feel like most of the songs emotion comes from the guitar, which says more for the guitar then then anything, because the singing is still quite emotional. The guitars are just so darn yearning.

Arches- Headlights

Now that you love the song, listen to the rest of Arches' Wide Awake EP at their Bandcamp. Then Once you love the entire EP go to their Kickstarter page and help fund a physical release of the Wide Awake
